Several weeks ago we were at the Raleigh Convention Center on a Wednesday and were looking for a quick bite to eat but not a huge meal. We decided to try Humble Pie which is a 10 minute walk away. They have a nice outdoor space but it was a little too hot and humid to sit outside. Inside the space is large with eclectic décor. It is cozy and warm with bright tones and dim lighting. We got there about 6:30pm and it was almost empty; though it did get busier as the evening progressed.
The menu is made up of small plates so we decided to start with three and see if we needed a fourth. We started with the Wild Mushroom Gnocchi which was nice dish. It came with a white wine butter sauce which was rich but maybe a bit too rich for the earthy mushrooms. The gnocchi were good but not as light as I have had. Next we tried the Ricotta and Butternut Squash Stuffed Conchiglioni (large stuffed pasta shells). This dish had a better balance than the gnocchi. The ricotta and butternut squash provided a nice sweetness against the acidity of the tomato and roasted garlic cream sauce in which it was served. Finally, we tried the Braised Short Rib Tostadas which were delicious! The beef was tender and nicely complemented by the cilantro and garlic of the chimichurri sauce. Overall, the dishes were good; they all had great flavor though they weren’t perfectly balanced.
For a light meal in a fun, casual atmosphere in downtown Raleigh, Humble Pie is a good option.
